Even though it goes against most public educators views, I feel choice is good for parents. Like anything that is supplied to consumers, there are multiple products that consumers may choose from. This allows the consumer to decide on the best product available for their money spent. This promotes competition amongst companies to develop the best product available at the lowest cost possible. With this thought of competition and constant improvements, I feel that parents should also have many choices when it comes to Education for their children. This choice by parents promotes competition amongst schools to supply the best education possible to their students. Without competition where would we be today?
In Governor Strickland’s state of the state address, he states, “The need to improve our educational system to compete with the international test scores. His plans include an increase in the number of days our students are in school. As well as mentioning a re-format of our student teaching program, which may turn into a residency much like doctors go through before becoming a full-fledged doctor. I believe before we can compete internationally, we need to compete locally.
In Kelly’s presentation she states, “The greatest achievement gains can be seen among African American, Hispanic or low-income students.” If the parents in the urban school setting are offered the choice for their student to attend a school in which their child can receive a better education, don’t you think they would? Without these options being provided to these students would they have a solid chance of getting out of the environment they currently live in?

Is there any between teachers' unions and the recent teacher misconduct legislation?
